Usually annual; stems usually suberect or erect, (1)-2-6-(10) cm tall. Fls usually few in terminal cymes. Seeds dull, tuberculate all over.

Disturbed soil, arable land, gardens, waste land, roadside, pasture, sandy soil, river flat, often in wet places that may be dry in summer.
This subsp. has sometimes been referred to in N.Z. as M. minor and M. verna and was first recorded as Calandrinia sp.
