Sporobolus diandrus

ξS. diandrus (Retz.) P.Beauv. ξThe only specimen seen consisted of the upper part of a culm topped by a lax panicle. Panicle 22 cm; rachis smooth, branches ascending to spreading, very sparsely prickle-toothed, bearing ± evenly spaced spikelets almost to base. Spikelets ≤ 1.5 mm, leaden green. Glumes unequal, < spikelet; lower 0.3 mm, upper 0.7-0.8 mm. Lemma = spikelet. Palea slightly < lemma. Stamens 2; anthers 0.5-0.6 mm, white. Caryopsis 0.8 × 0.5 mm, truncate. A species of India, Malesia to Polynesia, once collected at Hatepe, Lake Taupo, on footpath by river D. J. Nicolle 17 Jan 1994 (K, CHR 518485). Sporobolus diandrus was treated as S. indicus var. flaccidus Veldkamp, in a revision of Sporobolus in Malesia [Baaijens, G. J. and Veldkamp, J. F. Blumea 35: 393-458 (1991)].
