Sedum liebmannianum
ζ*S. liebmannianum Hemsley ζ* has been collected on a steep rocky slope in Alexandra, C. Otago. It was presumably cultivated in some of the many rock gardens in the area. A small, glabrous, tufted perennial; lvs thick, densely and closely imbricate, scale-like, triangular-ovoid, 2-3 × 1.5-2 mm, persistent after dying and giving the lower part of stem a silvery appearance; fls sessile, 5-10, in a simple, bracteate, terminal infl.; petals 4.7-5.2 mm long, lanceolate, white except for a pink stripe down middle outside; filaments white with purple anthers; carpels and styles white. The sp. is illustrated in Plate 12. The record of the closely related Mexican S. moranense Kunth (Given 1984) is based on a specimen of S. liebmannianum. The main difference between the 2 spp. is that S. moranense lacks the persistent dead silvery lvs on the lower part of the stem and in addition its stems are more slender than those of S. liebmannianum. (Mexico, 1984).
