ξCalamagrostis epigejos (L.) Roth ξPlants to 160 cm. Leaf-blade stiff, harsh, flat, to later inrolled, to 80 cm × 7 mm, abaxially closely short-scabrid, adaxially closely ribbed. Panicles dense-flowered, lanceolate, purplish, to 30 × 3 cm. Spikelets c. 6 mm. Glumes stiff, narrow, lanceolate. Lemma c. 3 mm, hyaline, surrounded and exceeded by a ring of white callus hairs concealing weak middorsal awn. Anthers c. 2 mm. A species indigenous to Eurasia and Africa, once collected on the Kermadec Is, Raoul Id, CHR 55415 J. H. Sorensen 1944, and known from one North Id locality, CHR 498081 C. C. Ogle 2798 Milsons Line, Palmerston North, at road edge in ungrazed rough pasture, 19.5.1994.
