ζ*Filago L.

ζ*Filago L. ζ* is represented in N.Z. by 2 spp. *F. pyramidata L. is known from only 2 collections - one early collection from near Christchurch and one in 1949 from Cromwell Gorge (Otago). An ascending to erect, densely lanate annual, much branched from base; lvs narrow-obovate, entire, flat, c. 10-18 × 3-4 mm, those subtending infl. exceeding it. Capitula discoid, in dense sessile clusters of 10-20; inner scales aristate. It has previously been recorded in N.Z. as F. germanica and Gnaphalium germanicum. (Europe, N. Africa, W. Asia, 1904). *F. vulgaris Lam. is known from only 1 collection (CHR 188230, Nelson, 1969). An erect, densely lanate annual, branched only above; lvs linear-lanceolate, undulate, entire, c. 15-25 × 2-3 mm, those subtending infl. not exceeding it. Capitula discoid, in dense sessile clusters of 20-35; inner scales aristate. (Europe, N. Africa, to Caucasia and Iran, 1984).
