Dracophyllum prostratum Kirk

D. prostratum Kirk in T.N.Z.I. 13, 1881, 384.

Type locality: "Mountains above Lake Harris". Type" W, T. Kirk. There are also Kirk specimens to K.

Stems rather stout, creeping, up to ± 3 dm. long, bark blackish brown; branchlets ± flexible, up to ± 4 cm. × 5 mm. including lvs. Lvs glab., coriac., densely imbricate, ascending, persistent, us. clothing branchlet almost throughout. Sheath c. 2-3 mm. long, broad, thin-margined, gradually narrowing into ovate-subulate to narrow-subulate lamina (3)-5-6 × 1·5-2.5m.; apex obtuse, margins minutely serrulate. Fls solitary, terminal, c. 4 mm. long; sepals ovate-oblong, obtuse to subacute, slightly < corolla-tube. Corolla-tube 3-4 mm. long, cylindric; lobes broadly ovate-oblong, spreading, obtuse, c. 1·5 mm. long.

DIST.: S. Montane to subalpine grassland, open ground, herbfield from c. lat. 44º 30' southwards.
