ζ*O. polyphylla Jacq.

ζ*O. polyphylla Jacq. ζ* is a rare escape from cultivation which is represented by a single sheet, from Papatoetoe, Auckland, where it was stated to be spreading. Bulbs to 2.5 cm long, broad-ovoid, with outer tunic brown and sometimes rather viscid. Stems erect, to c. 20 cm tall, glabrous, bearing a terminal tuft of lvs and fls. Lvs (3)-5-(6)-foliolate; petiole 1-8 cm long; lamina 10-35 × < 2 mm, narrow-linear. Fls solitary; peduncle 5-10 cm long, very slender. Sepals 5-7 mm long, hairy, reddish except for black apical callus. Petals 2-2.3 cm long, glabrous; tubular part yellow; limb pink, obovate. The single collection is referable to var. pentaphylla (Sims) T. M. Salter. (South Africa, 1976).
