Plants usually 4-35 cm. Longer spikelet pedicels usually > 5 mm. Glumes 2.5-3.5 mm. Lemma 2-2.5 mm; awn 2.5-3.5 mm. Plate 4F.

N.; S.: throughout; St.; Three Kings Is, Ch. Usually in dry, stony, or sandy ground, or in disturbed sites; rarely in damp ground at swamp or lagoon margins; sea level to subalpine.

Naturalised from Eurasia.
