ARUNDINEAE

Plants reed-like with cauline leaves. Inflorescence a large plumose panicle. Spikelets 2-4-flowered, florets all ⚥ or the lower ♂, or all florets unisexual; rachilla prolonged beyond floret or not. Glumes persistent, ≤ lemma, ± hyaline. Lemma with long silky hairs near base, ± hyaline, awned or awnless, entire or with lateral, ± awned lobes. Palea < lemma. Lodicules ciliate or glabrous. Stamens 3, or 2. Caryopsis ellipsoid; embryo c. ⅓ caryopsis; hilum oblong or short.
