Astelia linearis Hook.f. var. linearis
Type locality: Auckland Id. Type: K, J. D. Hooker.
Abaxial lf-surface uniformly covered, at least when young, with felt of woolly, dark-centred scales between midrib and margins.
DIST.: S., western Nelson, apparently widespread, and Longwood Range. St., A.
Boggy places in mountains, descending to near sea level in the south.
FL. 12–3. FT. 12–4.
The record for C. (Cheesem. Man. N.Z. Fl. 1925, 315) is not supported by specimens, old or recent, and was probably based only on Hooker's A. linearis var. subulata which is now regarded as specifically distinct.
