Petalochilus R.S.Rogers

Petalochilus Rogers in J. Bot., Lond. 62, 1924, 65, t. 571; reprinted in T.N.Z.I. 56, 1926, 16–18, t. 4.

This genus of 2 spp. was based on specimens sent to Rogers by H. B. Matthews who had had plants under observation near Kaitaia for several years from 1912 onwards. Superficially, as noted by Rogers, both spp. bear a striking resemblance to Caladenia minor Hook. f., the distinguishing feature being the petal-like form of the labellum. The following key to the spp. is given:

Key

Column-wings open anteriorly, not connate; a linear sigmoid appendage, with a cup-shaped summit, erect against the column
Column-wings connate anteriorly throughout their entire length, forming a pouch
