Amaranthus hybridus L. var. hybridus

* Var. hybridus

Infl. erect, green. Lateral spikes densely arranged, to c. 3 cm × 4 mm. Bracteoles and perianth green.

N.: known certainly from a few recent collections only, Mt Albert and St Heliers (Auckland City), Thames, Mangatahi (Hawke's Bay).

Possibly the New World 1983

Disturbed ground, mainly roadsides.

A. hybridus is rare in N.Z. and has been confused with other weedy amaranths. The name has been used commonly in N.Z. literature; Allan (1940) used A. hybridus for plants referred here to A. powellii.
