Eragrostis pilosa

ξE. pilosa (L.) P.Beauv. ξThe single specimen consists of a tuft c. 60 cm. Leaf-blade to 10 cm × 2 mm; margins eglandular. Panicle to c. 18 cm, narrowly branched; lower branch-axils with a few fine hairs to 4 mm. Spikelets c. 6 × 1 mm, numerous, linear, 6-10-flowered, greyish brown. Lemma c. 1.5 mm, green, tip purplish. Stamens 3; anthers 0.2 mm. Caryopsis c. 0.8 mm, oblong-ellipsoid. A Eurasian species once collected at Rotorua, FRI nursery A. Vanner 8.2.1990 (NZFRI 18731). Eragrostis pilosa was recorded for N.Z. in Iowa Geol. Survey Bull. no. 4, Weed Fl. Iowa 732 (1913) but no specimens were seen to support this record.
