Flowers solitary, distant; tepals 4-6- (8) mm long.

K., N., S., St., Ch., C., A. Throughout in wet or dry places from sea-level to 1200 m. (Cosmopolitan, but chiefly in north and south temperate regions)

First record: Hooker 1853: 264.

First collection: "hab. New Zealand", J. D. Hooker, undated (K).
