Cladia schizopora

Description : Flora (1985: 97).
Chemistry : Thallus K−, C−, KC−, CK− or + faint yellow, Pd+ red; containing ±gyrophoric, fumarprotocetraric, protolichesterinic and ursolic acids and unidentified triterpenoids.
N: Northland (Whananaki Beach), South Auckland (Moehau). S: Nelson (Lake Rotoroa), Canterbury (Boyle River), Otago (Dart Valley, Mt Cargill Dunedin, Jack's Blowhole Catlins, Lake Wilkie Catlins), Southland (Pourakino Valley, Seaward Bush). C: (Tucker Cove). Corticolous on decorticated and burned wood and rotting logs, rarely on peat or peaty soil; very easily overlooked, and probably more widespread than records show. Also known from E and SE Australia (Filson 1992b; McCarthy 2003c, 2006) and from southern Chile (Galloway & Quilhot 1999).

Cladia schizopora has a superficial resemblance to Thysanothecium scutellatum. However, the thallus perforations, the sorediate granules, the clustered, terminal, peltate, black apothecia and the chemistry readily distinguish C. schizopora.
