Thallus crustose. Photobiont green ? Myrmecia. Apothecia biatorine, brightly coloured, occasionally brownish or blackish. Exciple thick, to ± lacking, not carbonised. Paraphyses simple, ± richly branched in epithecium. Asci clavate, wall I+ blue, apical tholus clearly developed. Ascospores colourless, globose, simple, many per ascus.
Key
Biatorella is a cosmopolitan genus of c. 50 species included in the family Acarosporaceae. Two species are known from New Zealand, but the genus is much in need of collection and study here.
