Buellia alutacea

Holotype: New Zealand. Northland, Hen I., on rock, L.B. Moore A85 – W. Isotype – CHR 374328 [incorrectly selected as lectotype, fide Galloway (1985a: 46)].

N: Northland – known only from the type collection.

Buellia alutacea is characterised by: the saxicolous habit (coastal rocks); the pustular-verruciform, buff-yellow to ochraceous, occasionally white-pruinose, areolate thallus without a marginal prothallus; I− medulla; sessile black apothecia (0.3–0.8 mm diam.), often grey-pruinose; 1-septate, ellipsoidal ascospores, 14–16 × 8–9 μm.
