Buellia ferax

Lectotype: New Zealand. Sine loco, W. Colenso 6337 – G 638/13 [fide Galloway (1985a: 48)].

Description : Flora (1985: 48)

N: Sine loco. S: Otago (Cromwell). On pumice from the type collection in North I., and from schistose rocks at the old Cromwell Railway Station (collected in 1927 by G. Einar and Greta Du Rietz from a site that is now inundated and below the surface of Lake Dunstan). Still very poorly collected.

Endemic

Buellia ferax is characterised by: the saxicolous habit; the effuse, arachnoid, pale-grey thallus; scattered to crowded, black apothecia, 0.2–0.5 mm diam.; a brown-black hypothecium; and biseriate, ellipsoidal to ±fabiform ascospores, 10–13 × 5–6 μm.
