Megalospora is a mainly tropical genus of c. 30 described corticolous species (Sipman 1983, 1986b; Kantvilas 1994d) accommodated in the family Megalosporaceae (Hafellner & Bellemère 1982; Eriksson et al. 2004; Pennycook & Galloway 2004; Eriksson 2005). Main areas of speciation are New Zealand, New Guinea and Australia. Nine taxa are known from New Zealand.
