Heteroplacidium Breuss

HETEROPLACIDIUM Breuss, 1996

Type : Heteroplacidium imbricatum (Nyl.) Breuss [=Endocarpon imbricatum Nyl.]

Description : Similar to the genus Placidium (q.v.), but with a squamulose thallus, and clavate asci with biseriate, simple ascospores.

Heteroplacidium is a genus of nine species (Kirk et al. 2001), recently described for taxa formerly accommodated in the genera Catapyrenium, Dermatocarpon and Endocarpon. It is included in the family Verrucariaceae (Breuss 1996, 2001b; Eriksson et al. 2004; Pennycook & Galloway 2004; Eriksson 2005). One species is recorded from New Zealand (Breuss 1995).
