Heterodermia speciosa

Description : Flora (1985: 185).

Chemistry : Atranorin, zeorin, ±norstictic acid and three unidentified triterpenoids.

N: Three Kings Is to Wellington. S: Nelson, Canterbury. On trees. Known also from Great Britian, Eire, Europe, Scandinavia, the Azores, Asia, British Columbia, Hawai'i, Mexico, Brazil, East Africa, and Australia (Kurokawa 1962; Swinscow & Krog 1976b, 1988; Goward et al. 1994b; Moberg & Purvis 1997; Aptroot 2002e; Becker 2002; Coppins 2002b; Moberg 2002d, 2004a; Moberg & Nash 2002; Wolseley et al. 2002; McCarthy 2003c, 2006; Nimis & Martellos 2003).

Heterodermia speciosa is characterised by: the corticolous habit; the marginal soralia and the pale upper surface; and the corticate lower surface.
