Holotype: New Zealand. Wellington, on Nothofagus by coast, i.1963, P.W. James 2118 – BM. Isotype – TNS (Kashiwadani & Kurokawa 2003: 62).
Description : Flora (1985: 351 – as Parmelina jamesii).
Chemistry : Cortex K+ yellow; medulla K−, C−, KC−, Pd+ red; containing atranorin, chloroatranorin, malonprotocetraric acid (major) and protocetraric acid (tr.).
N: Auckland to Wellington. On bark of forest trees. Known also from New South Wales in Australia (McCarthy 2003c, 2006).

Parmelinopsis jamesii is characterised by: the corticolous habit; the simple, cylindrical isidia; and malonprotocetraric acid in the medulla.
