Enterographa has ascomata that are similar in shape to those of Opegrapha, but they differ in the rudimentary, colourless excipuloid tissue (see Torrente & Egea 1989b, 1991; Sparrius 2004). Thirty-five species are presently known (Sparrius 2004), included in the family Roccellaceae (Eriksson et al. 2004; Pennycook & Galloway 2004; Eriksson 2005), mainly from tropical regions, and species may be corticolous, foliicolous, lichenicolous or saxicolous (Redinger 1938; Almborn 1942, 1948; Santesson 1952; Culberson 1952; Coppins & James 1979a; Sérusiaux 1984a; Torrente & Egea 1989b; Aptroot et al. 1995; Matzer 1996; Kalb 2001c; Sparrius 2004). Chemical characters in foliicolous species of the genus are discussed by Aptroot et al. (2003b). Five species are recorded in New Zealand, but the genus is much in need of study and collection here. Enterographa neozelandica Redinger (Redinger 1938: 72–73; Galloway 1985a: 166) is referred to Dirina (q.v.).
