Candelaria concolor

Description : Flora (1985: 72).

N: S: Marlborough (Wairau Valley), Canterbury (Christchurch, Lincoln), Otago (Clyde, Roxburgh, Dunedin, Jack's Blowhole Catlins), Southland (Invercargill). Widely distributed on eutrophicated bark, especially of introduced trees, e.g. Betula, Cotinus, Populus, Quercus etc., in parks and gardens, also on rocks and Discaria in upland areas; and on charred tree stumps used as bird perches. Known also from Great Britain, Europe, Scandinavia, the Arctic, Asia, North and South America and Australia (Filson 1992a; Purvis et al. 1992; Nimis 1993; Santesson 1993; Aptroot 2002e; McCarthy 2003c, 2006; Nimis & Martellos 2003; Santesson et al. 2004).

Candelaria concolor is distinguished by: the areolate, granular-sorediate thallus, conspicuously lobate at the margins; the lack of apothecia; and the K− thalline reaction.
