Coenogonium implexum Nyl.

Thallus closely to loosely felt-like, pannose, pulvinate or spreading, 1-5(-8) cm diam., olive-green to greenish-yellow. Photobiont Trentepohlia, filament cells 2-4 times longer than wide. Apothecia scattered, small, 1 mm diam., round, sessile, disc plane, carneous-yellow, margins entire, white, thin. Paraphyses septate, 1.5-2 µm wide, apices clavate, 2-3.5 µm wide. Ascospores 8 per ascus, 1-septate, uniseriate, oblique, short-fusiform, 7-12 × 2-4 µm.

N: Three Kings Is to Wellington. S: Nelson to Southland. St: Widely distributed in lowland and coastal forest on trees and shrubs (both on bark and on twigs) in full sunlight or in moderate shade.

Pantropical

It is easily recognised by its felt-like thallus and small scattered circular orange-yellow apothecia.
