Fellhanera semecarpi is an inconspicuous species with very small apothecia (Santesson 1952; Lücking 1977a). Well-developed specimens of F. semecarpi are externally close to Byssoloma pauciseptata, the distinction between these two taxa being discussed by Lücking (1997c: 161).
