Agrostemma githago
ζ*Agrostemma githago L. ζ*, corn cockle, which has linear lvs, long foliaceous calyx lobes, and dull purple petals, is known from 2 early collections, from Otahuhu (WELT 61910, Cheeseman) and from Broken R., Canterbury (CHR 3437). The sp. was a common cornfield weed in Europe but has become increasingly rare in N. Europe this century. It has also been referred to in N.Z. as Githago segetum and as Lychnis githago. (Mediterranean, 1870).
