Urtica dioica subsp. gracilis (Aiton) Selander

Sparsely to densely hairy perennial. Lvs narrow to broadly lanceolate, usually cordate at base, occasionally truncate, (5)-10-20-(25) cm long. Petiole up to 1/2 as long as lamina, usually much less. Stipules 4-7 mm long. Racemes up to 9 cm long.

N.: Auckland City, Hamilton, Cambridge, Whakatane, Eltham, Raetihi, Hutt Valley; S.: Waimate.

subsp. gracilis is very similar to the typical subsp. but differs in the long narrow lvs and longer racemes. subsp. gracilis is sometimes accorded specific rank and is part of a complex group of related taxa found in N. America.
