Strigula albicascens

Porina albicascens (Nyl.) Müll.Arg., Bull. Soc. Roy. Bot. Belg. 31 (2): 38 (1892).

Lectotype: New Zealand. Sine loco [probably Wellington], 1867, Charles Knight 318 – H-NYL 1354A [fide Harris (1995: 154)]. Isolectotypes – H-NYL 1983, H-NYL 1982 [labelled Verrucaria metamorphosa Kn. in Knight's hand], and BM (Galloway 1985a: 413; McCarthy & Kantvilas 1999a: 4).

Description : Flora (1985: 413 – as Porina albicascens). See also McCarthy & Kantvilas (1999a: 4).

N: Wellington. Known only from the type collection. Also in Tasmania where it is known from several, widely scattered forest localities in high-rainfall areas (McCarthy & Kantvilas 1999a; McCarthy 2003c, 2006).

Strigula albicascens is characterised by: the pale, endophloeodal thallus; small perithecia; and 3–6-septate ascospores, 16–32 × 4.5–7.5 μm.
