Strigula prasina

Description : Flora (1985: 494–495 – as Raciborskiella prasina).

N: Auckland (Waitakere Ra.) to Wellington (Manawatu Gorge). On leaves of tawa (Beilschmiedia tawa), probably widespread in northern coastal and lowland forest. Known also from Central and South America, West and East Africa, Sri Lanka, Sumatra, Java, Philippines, Cocos Is and E Australia (Santesson 1952; Lücking 1992; Lücking & Lücking 1995; Farkas & Sipman 1997; Elix & McCarthy 1998; McCarthy 2003c, 2006).

Strigula prasina is characterised by: the hypophyllous habit; the subcuticular, algiferous thallus developed at the margins of the undersurface of leaves; abundant, immersed, black perithecia; branched and anastomosing paraphyses; 1–3-septate ascospores, 12–17 × 4–5 μm; and pycnidia with microconidia and macroconidia.
