Strigula nitidula
Description : Flora (1985: 564).
N: Wellington (Manawatu Gorge). On leaves of Alectryon excelsum. Known also from Central and South America, Madeira, West, East and South Africa, Madagascar, Réunion, India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Java, Philippines, New Guinea, Cocos Is, Galapagos Is, Lord Howe I., Tonga and Australia (Santesson 1925; Lücking 1992; Lücking & Lücking 1995; Farkas & Sipman 1997; Vězda et al. 1997; Elix & McCarthy 1998; McCarthy et al. 2001; McCarthy 2003c, 2006; Rønhede et al. 2003; Farkas 2004; Roux & Sérusiaux 2004).

Strigula nitidula is characterised by: the foliicolous habit; the pure black, glossy perithecia; 1-septate ascospores, rather easily broken apart, 8–12 × 2–3 μm; and the exposed pycnidia not covered by thallus tissue.
