Lecidea miscescens

L. miscescens Nyl., Lich. Nov. Zel.: 83 (1888).

Holotype: New Zealand. Westland, near Greymouth, on trees [Nothofagus and Phyllocladus bark], 1886, Richard Helms 253 – H-NYL 20923.

Description : Flora (1985: 235).

Chemistry : not tested.

S: Known only from the type collection.

Endemic

Lecidea miscescens is characterised by: the corticolous habit; the dingy whitish or creamish or greyish, areolate thallus; pale- to dark-brown apothecia, translucent when moist; a colourless hypothecium; and short, ellipsoidal ascospores, 10–12 × 3.5–5 μm. As indicated above, this species is not correctly accommodated in Lecidea s. str.
