Lecidea nigratula

L. nigratula Müll.Arg., Bull. Soc. Roy. Bot. Belg. 31 (2): 32 (1892).

Holotype: New Zealand. Sine loco, W. Colenso 6524 – BM.

Description : Flora (1985: 235).

Chemistry : Not tested.

N: Known only from the type collection. A very small, easily overlooked species on Cordyline bark.

Endemic

Lecidea nigratula is characterised by: the corticolous habit; the pale, blotchy, effuse thallus; scattered, minute, black apothecia (0.1–0.6 mm diam.); a dense, granular, black epithecium; and elongate–obovoid to fusiform–ellipsoidal ascospores, 12–14 × 3.5–4.5 μm. As indicated above, this species is not correctly accommodated in Lecidea s. str.
