Scirpus fluitans L.

S. fluitans L. Sp. Pl. 1, 1753, 48.

Floating with elongated leafy stems 12-40 cm, or terrestrial and tufted 1-10 cm high. Inflorescence a solitary spikelet, pale green with red markings, usually ebracteate. Stamens 2. Style-branches 2. Nut plano-convex, grey.

N. North Auckland - Lake Tangonge; Auckland - Waikato, near Rotorua; Volcanic Plateau. S. Cass, and Lakes Ianthe, Tekapo and Manapouri. Swampy ground and lake edges. (Europe, Asia, Africa, Malaysia, Australia)
