Juncus usitatus L.A.S.Johnson
Densely tufted; rhizome short. Stems 50-70-(100) cm × 1-1.5 mm, dull blue-green. Inflorescence delicate, always open with flowers evenly spaced along slender often curved branches. Stamens 3. Capsules 1.5-2 mm long, ± = tepals, very pale brown.
K., N. North Auckland; Auckland; scattered further south. S. Westland - locality not given; Canterbury - Christchurch. Damp pasture and swampy ground; found once as weed in gutter at Christchurch. (Australia, New Caledonia)
The open delicate heads with flowers regularly spaced along the slender erect or curved branches are characteristic.
