Juncus pauciflorus R.Br.

J. pauciflorus R. Br. Prodr. 1810, 259.

Slender; rhizome short. Stems 25-70-(100) cm × 0.75-2 mm, spreading, dark green, smooth, shining, pith continuous. Inflorescence very lax with flowers spaced along slender ± curved branchlets. Stamens 6. Capsule 2.5-3.5 mm long, distinctly > tepals.

N. North Auckland - scattered; Auckland - Auckland City, Moehau, Thames; Taranaki - Egmont Coast; Wellington - Taihape, Hutt Valley. S. Nelson - Ruby Bay, near Westport; Marlborough - Pelorus Valley; Otago - near Dunedin; Southland - near Invercargill, Wairaurahiri River mouth; Fiordland - Yates Point, Chalky Inlet, Big River mouth. St. Damp places. (Australia)

The continuous pith and 6 stamens readily separate J. pauciflorus from the other very slender stemmed species - J. distegus and J. filicaulis which both have interrupted pith and 3 stamens.
