Scandix pecten-veneris
ζ*Scandix pecten-veneris L. ζ*, shepherd's needle, is typically a weed of cultivated land. This sp. had a scattered distribution throughout the North and South Is late last century and early this century, but has not been collected since 1930. An erect, somewhat hairy annual herb up to 40 cm high. Lvs 2-4-pinnate; ultimate segments linear, acute; stem lvs similar, reduced. Umbels simple or 2-rayed; bracts usually 0; bracteoles c. 5-7. Petals white. Fr. subcylindric, spineless, 50-90 mm long including beak; beak c. 3-5× fertile part; commissure narrow; ridges 5 per mericarp, equal, broad, not extending to beak.
