Celtis sinensis

ζ*Celtis sinensis Pers.

ζ*Celtis sinensis Pers. ζ*, Japanese hackberry. One specimen of what is probably this sp. has been collected spreading along a scrub margin, fencelines and a railway line, Waipanga Road, Kamo, Northland. A deciduous tree with sparsely hairy branchlets; lvs short-petiolate, ovate-elliptic, acuminate, crenate in upper part, glabrous, to 11 × 4 cm; fr. solitary or paired, ± globose, orange. Several Celtis spp. are cultivated. (China, Japan, Korea, 1988).
