Gomphrena celosioides

ζ*Gomphrena celosioides C. Martius

ζ*Gomphrena celosioides C. Martius ζ*, Gomphrena weed, has been collected wild at Silverdale, N. Auckland. An annual with hairy, elliptic lvs to 4 cm long; infls in the axils of uppermost lf pairs, c. 1 cm diam., almost globular at anthesis, becoming spike-like and c. 2.5 cm long at fruiting; bracts papery and silvery-white; perianth white-woolly outside. The sp. was probably accidentally introduced from Australia where it is known as gomphrena weed.
