Acarospora gallica

A. gallica H.Magn., K. Sv. Vet.-Akad. Handl. ser. 3, 7 (4): 282 (1929).

Description : Flora (1985: 1).

S: Otago (Cromwell). On dry, dusty rocks on roadside. Also on brick. Probably more widely distributed in Central Otago and the Mackenzie Country. Known also from Europe and North America (Magnusson 1929, 1936; Nimis 1993; Esslinger & Egan 1995; Nimis & Martellos 2003).

Acarospora gallica is characterised by: the saxicolous habit; the brownish yellow, areolate thallus; crowded apothecia (3–6 per areola); and narrowly ellipsoidal ascospores (c. 200 per ascus), 3–6.5 × 1.5–2 μm.
