Acarospora otagensis

A. otagensis H.Magn., Sv. Bot. Tidskr. 37: 279 (1943).

Holotype: New Zealand. Otago, Cromwell, on rocks at railway station, 17.iii.1927, G. Einar and Greta Du Rietz 2178a : 5 – UPS.

Description : Flora (1985: 2).

S: Otago (Cromwell). On rocks, with species of Acarospora, Caloplaca, Candelariella, Rhizocarpon and Xanthoparmelia. Probably more widespread in drier, upland areas. Material from subantarctic Marion I. was recently referred to this species (Øvstedal & Gremmen 2001: 553), but may be another species.

Endemic

Acarospora otagensis is similar to A. fuscata in habit and structure but has a pale lower and a paler upper surface, a more determinate thallus and more deeply impressed apothecia.
