ζr. × delacourii

ζ*R. × delacourii André

ζ*R. × delacourii André ζ* is the hybrid between R. indica Lindley, Indian hawthorn, and R. umbellata, and a specimen from a wild plant collected on a coastal cliff at Parnell, Auckland, very probably represents it although there are no fls and only young frs. This hybrid is now more commonly planted than either parent although recently cvs of R. indica have become more popular. A shrub 1-2 m high with somewhat coriaceous, petiolate lvs with the lamina usually 30-60 × 15-30 mm, elliptic to broadly elliptic-obovate, shallowly crenate-serrate, at least in upper 1/2, with cuneate base and usually obtuse apex; infl. erect and with rather few fls; sepals triangular; petals 6-10 mm long, obovate, pink or whitish with pink base; frs 7-10 mm diam., ± subglobose. (Cultivated hybrid, 1982).
