Type locality: ? Queen Charlotte Sound or Dusky Sound. Type: P, Forster No. 32.
All parts rather hispid, stem-hairs particularly spreading almost at right angles. Pedicel much > calyx in fr.; corolla c. 3 mm. diam. Plant straggling, roots on branches rather few, occ. almost lacking.

From South Id: Foxhill, Nelson, T. F. Cheeseman; Salt's Gully, Lvttelton, R. M. Laing; Lake Manapouri, G. Simpson (including type of M. orbiculata Simpson, BD 75721). From Chatham Is: Whangamarino Run, L. Cockayne. Recorded from Stewart Id "Rare. Only noted growing in mud of River Rakiahua" by Cockayne (Rep. Bot. Surv. St. Id 1909, 60).
