Vernonia cinerea

ζ*Vernonia cinerea (L.) Less. ζ*, ironweed. Small annual. Stems leafy, erect, with tomentum of ± medifixed hairs. Lvs ovate to elliptic, petiolate, minutely hairy. Panicles diffuse; capitula 3-5 mm long. Corolla pink. Achenes c. 1 mm long, cylindric, brown, hairy. Pappus of 2 rows of white hairs; outer row very short, ciliate; inner row 3 mm long, scabrid. Collected once, from Silverdale, Auckland, in a turnip crop (CHR 98065, Bartlett, 14.3.1959). (Pantropical, 1959).
