ζlathraea clandestina
ζ*Lathraea clandestina L. ζ*, l'herbe-cachée, was recorded from N.Z. by Allan, H. H., Bull. Wellington Bot. Soc. 3: 4 (1942), as a parasite on Salix roots at Tutira, Hawke's Bay. The specimen upon which this record is based is a pickled flowering piece and shows the characteristic rhizome with its imbricate fleshy scales, and the fls with 4 short equal calyx lobes; the large corolla is 4-5 cm long and is stated to have been showy purple. Despite the abundance of willows in the area it has never been reported again and it is unlikely to have been overlooked because of the very conspicuous and attractive fls. (S.W. and W. Europe, 1942).
