Pavonia hastata Cav.

Perennial much-branched shrub up to 2 m high. Stems densely clothed in fine stellate hairs, glabrous toward base. Lvs densely clothed in stellate hairs below, moderately clothed in stellate hairs above; lower lvs suborbicular, cordate; upper lvs ± triangular, slightly hastate, serrate, c. 1-5 cm long; petioles 5-15-(20) mm long; stipules filiform, c. 5 mm long. Fls axillary and solitary; fruiting pedicels 15-30 mm long; epicalyx segments 5, spathulate with expanded apex, free almost to base, < calyx; calyx shallowly campanulate, densely clothed in stellate hairs; calyx teeth ovate-triangular, acute, > tube, connivent at fruiting; petals spreading, reddish, 15-30 mm long. Mericarps sparsely hairy with simple hairs, distinctly reticulately veined, awnless.

N.: known from one recent collection only (CHR 98075, North Cape, Halliwell, "isolated plants").
