Type locality: "Watercourses by the Kowai river, alt. 2-3000ft." Type: K, Haast.
Glab. herb up to 3 dm. or more tall; stems short, stout, invested by If-remains, arising from stout taproot up to 10 mm. diam. at stock; sts spreading by rhizomes or stolons. Lvs clustered, pinnate to 3-foliolate, on slender petioles up to ± 10 cm. long, expanded at base. Pinnae 3-5, rather distant. Lflts us. with 2-3 divisions, on petiolules up to c. 2 cm. long. Lamina 10-12 × 10-17 mm., membr., glaucous below; rhomboid to suborbicular, cuneately narrowed to base or truncate; margins crenulate-denticulate towards apex. Umbels small, compound, on stout to slender peduncles 10-20 cm. long, bearing 1 or more pairs of deeply 3-5-lobed lflts. Primary rays 2-3, unequal, up to 5 cm. long; bracts narrow-lanceolate; secondary rays 3-5, stout, bracts minute, linear. Calyx-teeth minute, petals white; styles very slender, spreading, persistent. Fr. c. 6·5 mm. long; mericarps compressed, with pair of broad lateral wings; dorsal rib us. conspicuous. Vittae 1 per furrow, 2 on commissural face.
