Onopordum tauricum
ζ*O. tauricum Willd. ζ*, Taurean thistle. Stems up to 3 m tall; lvs bright green, covered with viscid short glandular hairs; involucre ovoid; involucral bracts green or purplish, (3)-4-4.5 mm wide at base, narrow- triangular, the outer spreading at flowering and recurved at fruiting; corolla purple, 25-33 mm long; achenes 4-6 mm long; pappus bristles scabrid, 8-10 mm long. Known from 1 population near Albury, S. Canterbury, an escape from an abandoned homestead garden (e.g., CHR 390544, Healy 87/25, 4.3.1987). (S.E. Europe, 1988).
