Sprengelia

ζSprengelia Smith

ζSprengelia Smith ζ is represented in N.Z. by S. incarnata Smith, pink swamp heath, also indigenous to S.E. Australia, including Tasmania. Several small populations have recently been found in the remote Puysegur Point and West Cape areas of S. Fiordland, and so are almost certainly indigenous. The erect plants, c. 30 cm high, have spirally arranged imbricate lvs rarely longer than 1 cm, with a sheathing base and an ovate blade terminated by a pungent point. The terminal fl. heads are surrounded by a number of bracts, and the greenish sepals and pink, almost free corolla lobes are 8-10 mm long.
