Pannoparmelia wilsonii is a smaller and more delicate lichen than P. angustata and appears to have a more restricted distribution in New Zealand. It is also much less variable in its morphology. It is distinguished from Anzia entigiana and A. jamesii (the isidiate species of Anzia in New Zealand) in having usnic acid in the upper cortex (yellow), a moniliform prothallus, a distinct lower cortex, and narrower, constricted lobes that lack an internal chondroid strand.
